Project Based Learning (PBL)

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
what is my culture?
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is Family stories, where
you are from and holidays that you celebrate
Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage.
I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.

In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on
Maori legends. I read that battle of the mountains, Maui and the fire God, and how Maui caught the
Giant fish. I have written my own legend called/I retold the legend of "Joo u no spek engrish" in my own words.

Then made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script,
some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music
and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reflection:
For our production I contributed by acting as the mountain called “Tongariro” I am a mountain
who fights Taraniki, Putuaki and Tauhara for the love of Pihanga.
But in the end Tongariro the mighty champion finally won through.
There are also lots of music and actions through out the play.

I think the show might impact on others by making my family really proud of me. Also people will
remember what happened in the story "The battle of the mountains" and how it was made.

What I learned about working with others was always try your best, work your hardest and
encourage others.
